Selena Gomez was born on July 22, 1992, to a mother that was only 16 at the time of her birth. She was born in Grand Prairie, Texas. Her father is Ricardo Joel Gomez. Her mother is Amanda Dawn “Mandy” Cornett. Her mother is a former stage actress. The inspiration for Selena’s name came from Selena Quintanilla.

Gianna from ‘Barney and Friends’

Selena Gomez career in acting started in 2001 when she played a role in the popular children’s program ‘Barney & Friends’. She played Gianna on the program. Selena Gomez was dropped from the show two years later. She went on to audition for other shows without success.

Gomez in ‘Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over’

Selena Gomez’s first movie was ‘Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over’. She played a small role in the film. Later she would also play a small role in the film, ‘Walker, Texas Ranger: Trial by Fire’.

Selena Gomez in ‘The Suite Life of Zack and Cody’

Selena Gomez played the role of Gwen in ‘The Suite Life of Zack & Cody’ which aired on the Disney Channel. Her performance on the show led to her earning more projects with Disney. She was called upon to play the role of evil Mikayla in the ’Hannah Montana’ series. The young actress would then land her first lead role when Disney cast her as Alex Russo in ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ in 2007. This role was a success. Selena Gomez played this role until 2012.

Selena Gomez starred in the ABC Family movie ‘Another Cinderella Story’. She was accompanied by her fellow Disney Channel actor Andrew Seeley. She also played major roles in two other Disney Channel movies after this movie. She starred in ‘Princess Protection Program’ along with Demi Lovato. ‘Princess Protection Program’ was released in 2009. She also starred in ‘Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie’ in 2009.

Selena Gomez & the Scene’s first project with Hollywood Records was ‘Kiss and Tell’. The album was released in September 2009. She also made her first musical performance in 2009 where she sang one of the main singles from her debut album. The album sold 66,000 units in its first week and debuted at number nine on the US Billboard 200 albums chart.

The group through which Selena Gomez had released ‘Kiss & Till’ released ‘A Year Without Rain’ in 2010. The album debuted on the US Billboard 200 at the number 4 spot. The album sold a little over 66,000 units. This project was faced with mixed reviews. Some criticized Selena Gomez’s use of the Auto-Tune effect.

The album, ‘Stars Dance’, featured her first song to make it to the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100. The album was also her Selena Gomez’s first album to debut at number one on the US Billboard 200 albums chart. The album sold 97,000 units in the first week of its release.

After firing her mother and stepfather as her managers, Selena Gomez went on to release a final compilation album to complete her contract with Hollywood Records. The singer went on to sign with Interscope Records in December 2014.

In 2015, Selena Gomez shared with the world that she had been fighting a battle with Lupus. Lupus is an autoimmune disease that attacks your body’s tissues and organs. The disease often leaves you fatigued, achy and depressed. As a result of this battle with Lupus, Selena Gomez had to cancel her tour in 2015.
